Box Blade

I have a question about box blades. I own a B7500 and may be buying an older home on 20 acres. Most of it is wooded but there's about 4-5 acres of grass. I currently mow 4 acres of grass(my curent reidence) with my 7500 and a Continental Belton 3point. The question is the new property looks like it has never been graded, it is a mature yard but with my current set up I would be scalping half high spots in the lawn. I realize the B 7500 has no 3 pt down pressure(never a problem till now), would a box grader be efficient in leveling some of these areas? I will be adding a loader soon but do not like the thought of bringing in 20 tons of top soil. I do not own a box scraper but will purchase one to handle this task, if and a big if this deal goes thru. I would appreciate everyones comments. My thoughts and prayers to the soldiers and their families. DC Smith

Have you considered a landscape rake and a top soil? It would be better to add than subtract.
A box blade will level and you do not need down force to do so, but it will make a mess of the grass. I would think it might be better to add and then let the grass fill in. ....

D C. I've been down the same road before and i've done it both ways you ask about. If you're talking about filling in the low spots on 4.5 acres, 20 tons of topsoil won't be a drop in the bucket that method works fine on small jobs. then just seed the fill and be done with it, but I'm afraid 4.5 acres is going to overwhelm you with the amount of soil you'll use up. A box blade with scarifier teeth will easily tear off the high spots and drop it in the low spots, but those gobs of sod are a real mess to try to level out. Now this may be going clear off the deep end. but the best results I've ever had is mowing the gras shoret to get rid of as much trash as you can,then kill the sod with Roundup. after the sod is dead the roots and clumps just fall apart and grade out easily. I do realize that reseeding that much lawn is kind of pricey for seed, fertilizer, etc., but that's just been my experience for what ever it's worth. And yes lets keep the troops in our prayers, they are protecting our ability to live the kind of life we're used to. ....
